Ho Chi Minh City plans to launch a new bus service from Tan Son Nhat International Airport (HCM airport) to the city downtown to give visitors another option besides the more expensive, scam-prone taxis.

New public bus service between airport and downtown in Ho Chi Minh City

The new buses which have new air-conditioned 63-seat will run 10.4 kilometers between Tan Son Nhat Airport and the central bus station near Ben Thanh Market in District 1. This is a new proposal that has been sent to the transport ministry. We hope it will be approved in the next time.

However the new route will not be subsidized, so it’s more expensive than other public bus routes in the city. The current route runs 15.4 kilometers through Ben Thanh, but this route has been in service for more than 10 years and its old buses are not a very good option.

The fare for this new route has not been sent. Current public bus tickets in the city cost between VND 5,000 – 10,000 (22 – 44 US cents).

Ho Chi Minh City last June also urged the Ministry of Planning and Investment to expand one of its metro lines in Tan Binh District to link it to Tan Son Nhat airport.
